Eine neue Epoche des Eispolo wurde aber ein Jahr vorher gefeiert - das 40-Jahr- Jubiläum der Poloturniere in St.Moritz. Vom 12. bis 24. Juli 1960 fand das 1.Internationale Poloturnier auf der alten Polowiese im Zentrum von St.Moritz Bad statt.Die Hauptsponsor Cartier und den Teamsponsoren Pommery und Bank Hofmann, haben ihr Engagement für dieses Turnier in vergrösserter Form erneuert. Ein vierte Team spielte in diesem Winter unter dem Patronat unseres offiziellen Turnierhotels, Badrutt's Palace Hotel.

So war es wieder möglich, ein Poloturnier auf allerhöchstem Niveau zu veranstalten. Vier internationale Teams, in denen weltbeste Poloprofis ihr Können unter Beweis stellen, brachten äusserst spannende Spiele um die begehrte Cartier-Trophy. Spektakuläre Zweikämpfe und optischer Genuss für die Zuschauer waren garantiert.Zwischen den Spielen sorgt eine grosszügig angelegte Zeltstadt für Unterhaltung und kulinarische Abwechslung.Supporter ermöglichten es auch an diesem Turnier, dass die Gäste die attraktiven Polospiele ohne Eintrittsgeld mitverfolgen konnten. Under the patronage of the jewelry and watch producer Cartier, the renowned St. Moritz Polo Club every year organizes the most significant polo tournament on snow to be held anywhere in the world. The Cartier Polo World Cup on Snow is listed in the "Top Events of Switzerland" as publicized within Switzerland itself and around the globe. Regularly for the lest several years, between 10,000 and 15,000 spectators have attended the Cartier Polo World Cup on Snow. Since 1985, when the idea to play polo on the frozen St. Moritz Lake celebrated its world premiere, the Cartier Polo World Cup on Snow has become an indispensible event on the Engadine calendar. At one time considered an extravagant curiosity conceived by Reto G. Gaudenzi, this polo tournament has come to accentuate the exquisite image of St. Moritz, and proven itself ideally suited to the chic elegance and high class ambiance to be found in the local legendary "champagne climate". The rosser of teams for 1998 includes the 1996/97 winning team from England: the Team Royal County of Berkshire, as well as a team from Argentina Buenos Aires, the local St. Moritz Team and the novices from Berlin.
